The organ in St
Laurence Ludlow

John Snetzler installed what has become the
basis for today's organ in 1764, at a cost of £ 1,000. Originally a
three manual instrument with no pedal board, it had 19 speaking stops.
The case of the original Snetzler organ remains today.
In 1860, the firm of Gray and Davison rebuilt
the organ, using much of the original pipework, and adding to it, to
make a four manual, 36 speaking stop instrument.
Major refurbishments and improvements were
carried out in the 1980s by Nicholson of Worcester, resulting in the
present arrangement of four manuals and 52 speaking stops. Of these,
some 14 are from the original Snetzler design.
The specification
includes the normal playing aids (pistons,
couplers etc)
The organ is located in the North Transept of
the church with a detached console and electric action.
A series of
organ recitals are scheduled for 2007.
